For those of you who know me, you will not be surprised to see an english post here once in a while. Even in regular conversations I will throw in many English or French expressions because I feel they better sum up what is going through my head at the time. For those of you who don’t know me, consider yourselves warned.
Last night I had the chance to go have a few pints with a couple of people from work I greatly appreciate. We watched yet another losing game, and still we had a lot of fun. With my position being abolished at work, it was exactly what I needed (ok, if I’d have had it my way, the Habs would have won but whatever). When they left, I stuck around. Because my pint was not empty but mostly out of curiosity for the entertainment that was about to start. I ended up watching the 3 sets and buying their CD! This dreadlocked artist sang some great Dilan songs, an interesting rendition of Bobby McGee as well as a few of her original songs. Her band mate and lead guitar Tom Shemer was sitting in the same booth as me, letting Lee La inhabit the stage. She was good. A unique voice, a unique take on the classics, a pleasent surprise on the originals. Check her out. The band is called Elsewhere and the cd is The Damn Truth.
As I am writing this, Valentine’s Day is inching its way to its end. I was Valentine-less this year but I am not saddened by it. Through the years you learn to appreciate solitude. To me, Valentine’s Day is about celebrating love, weather it be recieved from friends, family and, if you are lucky, the one (in uniform maybe?
) that makes you feel fuzzy inside. This day also reminds me of those we lost, the love they gave, and the beautiful memories that remain.
Mamie tu me manques, mais ton amour en moi vit encore, toujours…
